The extra loft is immediately noticeable the first time you zip it up—it feels like a much heavier coat without the bulk. I’ve worn it through a few wet, gusty mornings and stayed dry and warm the whole walk, which is exactly what I needed.

Used it on a windy ridge hike last weekend and the wind-resistant shell blocked the gusts completely while the extra down loft kept me warm even when I stopped for lunch. The hood fits perfectly under a helmet, and it packed down surprisingly small in my daypack for such a warm jacket.

I've been wearing this on windy evening walks and the wind resistance really makes a difference — no cold sneaking through. The extra insulation is noticeable compared to my old jacket, though I wish the hood was just slightly roomier for a beanie underneath.
